How You Can Help

Brie
Support for the Shelter's humane rescue and rehabilitation work takes many forms. Here are just a few of the ways you can make a real difference in the lives of abandoned, neglected and abused pets:

Shelter Volunteer

There is always a need for volunteer help at the Shelter and that help takes many forms. Everyone has something to contribute. In the seemingly endless list of tasks that support the Shelter's mission, there is a place for those who want to help. Consider this your personal invitation to join our team. You'll feel great knowing that your time and talents are making a difference to an abandoned, neglected or abused dog, cat, kitten or puppy. We also think you'll make new friends by meeting others who care about animals. Click here to learn more about Shelter volunteer opportunities.

Adopt a Pet!

Can you make room in you heart and in your home for a cat or dog? Pets give us so much. They calm us, entertain us, share with us. Doggie grins can enchant us, kitty antics amuse us, and when our pets joyously greet us, when we've only been to the mailbox, we are delighted. If you're ready to adopt a pet, let us know. We'll work with you to find exactly the right companion for you.

The Share/Care Program

Every animal who comes to the Shelter needs food and a roof over its head. After that, the similarity ends. Some come to us abused, needing medical care for the body and TLC for the spirit; some come neglected with physical injuries. Others come with medical conditions that are best treated in a home environment. Many come very frightened and combative. Some are
seriously ill with infection that may cause permanent physical damage. All of these pets are as special as those animals that just need extra calories, and routine medical care. Click here to learn more about the Share/Care program.

Financial Support

Friends of Strays is entirely privately-funded through private donations, grants and fundraising. For more than fifteen years, it has been the Shelter's policy to remain independent of public funds, thereby eliminating any public pressure on its no-kill policy. Friends of Strays, Inc. is a registered 501 c (3) charity; your donations are tax-deductible to extent allowed by law.

Mistletoe in the LaundryLarge or small, all donations are very much appreciated. There are many ways to make a monetary donation, and ways that your donation can be multiplied. Click here to find out how you can support Friends of Strays.

Fundraising Volunteer

From bake sales and duck-derbys to wine-tasting, gourmet cooking lessons and community art, fundraising is an ongoing and essential activity. Fundraising volunteers help with planning events and publicity as well as finding sponsors, picking up donations, and working the events.
