Heartworm Disease refers to a dangerous condition of adult heartworms located in the animal's heart. Dogs with Heartworm Disease may have symptoms like a chronic soft cough, shortness of breath or congestive heart failure. In the early stages, like with Heartworm Infection, the dog may not have symptoms. Even one heartworm in a cat may be fatal.
